More Firsts
There seems to always be new firsts at our house which is a great part of raising kids I guess. It's the beginning of the second week of school and Lauren starts in the morning and could not be more excited. We have a dress and hairbow picked out and waiting.
Emma lost her first tooth finally (except the ones that were pulled). The school nurse pulled it the other day cause it was "bleeding in gym class." Yikes! Anyway, she did not want the nurse to pull the other top one so I told her either to be quiet about it or "work on it." She started really working on it tonight around 7:30 and by 8:30 it popped out. Yuck! Why it freaks me out I don't know. I certainly have seen much "grosser" things in my life. Oh well only MANY more to come.
The tooth fair
y of course showed up for the other one and I think has already showed up tonight thankfully. How stressful that job seems to be. ;)
Anyway, another first and this one is a first for me. Dave and I have a "community garden" with our neighbors that we love to hang out with and it works out well that it is in the empty lot behind our houses. Well, we had lots of zucchini a few days ago and several cucumbers. Our tomatoes are still green and I doubt they are going to turn. ANYWAY, I was thinking of making Grandma Kaup's cinnamon ring things and canning them. So I mentioned it to Stacy and she promised that she would "domesticate me." (good luck) :)
So, I cut up the zucchini and made bread and butter pickles and canned those.
I got a little crazy and bought a box of cucumbers and made Gallons of dill pickles that are so yummy.
And, thanks to aunt Sharon, got the recipe for those cinnamon ring things. I didn't realize the process that is. Anyway, we are on day 4 of a 5 day process. I think we will actually be putting them in the cans tomorrow night along with lots of watermelon rind that's supposed to be sweet pickles. Who knows about that? :)
I have to admit that I am enjoying myself quite a bit. Lauren had the best time too helping put the "pickles" in the jars and putting some of the "tree pieces" in the jars too. (dill)

Thanks for the help "jarring" tonight. It was fun!
